Navajo Sterling Silver Hair Piece Hand Hammered with Punch Work by Gilbert Morgan
$100.00
Presented here is a vintage Navajo made hair piece with traditional punch work. This piece was recovered from a Nevada based auction. You won't often find hairpieces like this by the Navajo and this should be considered a rare form. It is worn by inserting the hair through the slot and then using a silver stick through a knot in the hair
The condition of this piece is flawless and the surface is glossy.
Historically, the Navajo melted silver coins to create their work. This piece is hallmarked with a fancy script 'M', which possibly refers to the maker, likely Gilbert Morgan. There is some marker on the back of the piece which has been left on in case it gives clues about the origin. I can remove it at your option.
Dimensions: about 66mm (2.6") across and 47mm (1.85") top to bottom. Weight is 19.2 grams.
