Offered is a silver Hanau, Germany repousse lidded box probably meant as a large tea caddy. This covered box was made entirely by hand and hammer marks and other tool marks are evident. Repousse designs are traditional floral motifs with farm animals (goat or long horn cow. A tremendous number of hours would have been spent to make this beautiful piece of silver. From a Washington, DC area estate. Probably a low grade of silver. Dimensions: 6.25" Weight: 240 grams This item is marked. Condition is fair with a rich patina. I believe it may have had a finial. Solder is weak at the top joint (shown).
