John Forrest of London Chronometer (pocketwatch)
$2,000.00
A stunning ca. 1870 John Forrest of London fusee chronometer with a sterling silver dial and a sterling silver case. The silver dial is exquisite with its complex engine turned engraving and of course the second hand, all enclosed within the gold Roman numerals. Open the back cover and key wind. Open the front crystal and set the time. Runs more than 24 hours. This watch is engraved and was carried by Alexander Baird, likely the 1st Baronet, 2nd of Ury. Case is marked with the silver marks for Henry Green of Chester, 1887. As Baird was made Lord Lieutenant of Kincardineshire, perhaps the watch coincides with that appointment or some other significant life event. Inscribed for the maker John Forrest Chronometer Maker to the Admiralty London No. 3130.
Condition: Completely overhauled by Matthew Stohlman, master horologist with more than 50 years of experience. Watch is in perfect running order and overall excellent condition.
