Holmes Smith Landscape of Dunes and Ocean - Original Watercolor Painting (9.5" x 14")

$600.00
Offered is a more than century old original watercolor painting by Holmes Smith (1863-1937) executed on paper of an unknown landscape with dunes and ocean. The scene is the gorgeous landscape of the gently sloped dunes and their flora with a sliver of purple ocean in the background. Massachusetts is a possible location as the artist painted there extensively. Colors are beautiful and this is a classic Holmes Smith painting by a well known regionalist. The painting is 9.5" x 14" and is sold unframed. Smith was a longtime faculty member of Washington University. He came to the University in 1884 as a drawing instructor and became professor of drawing and history of art in 1907. I have a number of Smith watercolors that were sourced from deaccessions from the family estate. Perfect for framing.
