Scarce coin silver tablespoon by Elias Pelletreau, (ca. 1770), long considered to be Long Island's most important silversmith (worked in New York and Southampton, NY) and a rival in talent to Paul Revere. He apprenticed with Simeon Soumaine, worked briefly in New York City, eventually settling in Long Island for the remainder of his career. Condition is good but with firestain. This piece has an initial monogram on the back of the stem M*V for an unidentified patron and dated 1744. The tablespoon measures 7.75" long. 52 grams.
