A large antique Chinese jade two-sided plaque relief carved somewhat naively in Burmese jadeite, featuring a woman approached by a man as she stands on a rocky outcrop in the mountains beneath a willow tree. The reverse features a pair of flowers. There is some russet at the edge as if it may have been framed in wood for a long period of time. It is engraved fully on both sides. There's a depth and a significance to a stone like this and it is a joy in the hand with its surface cold to the hand but warming with touch. This may have been mounted in furniture or a decorative stand at one time. The weeping willow tree, in particular, is associated with sadness or mourning in Chinese culture, but it can also symbolize resilience and the ability to thrive under harsh conditions.
