Ca. 1900 Indian Radha Krishna Temple Token - Ramatanka
$225.00
This is a rare ramatanka or Hindu Indian Hindu temple tokens recently recovered in a group of unidentified coins from a large and old Virginia coin collection. Temple tokens were made for religious pilgrims to carry for good luck, and to receive blessings from the gods. They come with designs of Hindu deities and with various religious ceremonies being carried out in honor of them. On this token is a Kali Mata and Radha Krishna. The design comes from the great Hindu epic 'Rama's Journey' (the Ramayana). The text on the token is in Hindi, written in the Devanagari script, and commonly reads 'Rama Lachhamana Janaki' or 'Rama Lakshaman janaki' and 'Jai bala Hanamanaka' or 'Jai bolo Hanuman ki.' MIT #404.
Great as a good luck charm or talisman.
