Ca. 1900 Indian Dubar Scene and the Jagannath deity trio Temple Token - Ramatanka

$225.00
This is a rare ramatanka or Hindu Indian Hindu temple tokens recently recovered in a group of unidentified coins from a large and old Virginia coin collection. Temple tokens were made for religious pilgrims to carry for good luck, and to receive blessings from the gods. They come with designs of Hindu deities and with various religious ceremonies being carried out in honor of them. On this token is a Dubar scene around a platform (dubar) and the Jagannath deity trio on the obverse. The design comes from the great Hindu epic 'Rama's Journey' (the Ramayana). The figure on the other side of the token is Hanuman. The text on the token is in Hindi, written in the Devanagari script, and commonly reads 'Rama Lachhamana Janaki' or 'Rama Lakshaman janaki' and 'Jai bala Hanamanaka' or 'Jai bolo Hanuman ki.' Great as a good luck charm or talisman. You will receive one of the tokens shown (though feel free to specify and I will try to accomodate). Check out some of my other coins here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/neurorocker?section_id=19121636 Or just browse around the shop! http://www.etsy.com/shop/neurorocker
