Ca 1815 William Mannerback Coin Silver Tablespoon Reading, PA
$650.00
An 1816 dated superb Pennsylvania coin silver tablespoon pair made by renowned maker, William Mannerback, Sr (1762-1838). He inhabited the town of Reading and was the patriarch of a multi-generational family that had settled there. These simple spoons typify the time period. Neatly made, and stamped with a small font "W. Mannerback" and "REDDING". A plain cartouche. These spoons are in very good condition given the age with nominal wear, surface scratches and overall patina. A couple small dints to the bowl and one with right-handed tip wear. Overall, exceptional and scarce pieces by a rare maker. Made in the heavy gauge that the senior Mannerback was known for.
[Reference: "The Mannerbacks, Silversmiths of Reading, PA", Albert and Elizabeth Gamon, The Magazine Antiques, April, 1982 pp 952-6.]
Dimensions: about 9" in length and weight of about 106 grams. Monogrammed 'CP' in a hand laid cursive.
