Ca 1775 French Large Silver Serving Spoon (169 grams) by Nicolas Collier
$2,000.00
Offered here is a very large ca 1775 French (Paris) silver serving spoon with classic lines and an upturned terminal in the fiddlethread pattern. Marked with a partially effaced armorial on the obverse. Gorgeous! Condition is outstanding with a good original patina, and wear to the marks. 12.5+" and 169 grams. This spoon is what I would describe as extremely heavy gauge.
Marked with the NC and standing cock maker mark, and the Paris monkey discharge mark. The other marks are too worn to read. Recently recovered from a DC-area estate.
While there are not many examples of Collier's work available to view, you could look to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY to see one other example of his serving spoons. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/197458
