Ca 1760 Samuel Minott of Boston Coin Silver Celtic Point Teaspoon - American Colonial Silver
$450.00
Samuel Minott was an influential colonial American silversmiths in America's most important city for early silver, Boston, Massachusetts. His work is well collected (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Worcester Art Museum) and is hard to find. Around 170 of his pieces survive. He was arrested in 1776 for being a Tory. Minott was known to buy silver from other silversmiths to fulfill orders and purchased silver from Paul Revere on a number of occasions.
This Hanoverian style tablespoon features an incredible engraved pattern on the handle. It is well marked for Minott. Patina and satin finish are perfect and not overpolished. Very conservatively, there are typical signs of use commensurate with age, particularly some bowl wear. Spoons is monogrammed in period script for 'NP'. Mark; Handle, underside; "SM" stamped within a rectangle.
