C. 1935-40 Sterling Silver Quetzalcoatl Brooch Circle of William Spratling 980 Silver of Taxco (Serpent / Dragon)

Offered here is a tremendous circle of William Spratling Quetzalcoatl brooch recently recovered from Millerton, New York. Handsome possibly one of a kind design that is classic Meso-American mythical motif known as the feathered serpent or dragon Quetzalcoatl as illustrated in the codex nutali. This brooch is an early piece from the first period that ranged from about 1930-1940 marked with an incuse 980 mark and Taxco. Silver is very heavy gauge. Must have come from a Spratling protege and possibly made from the Spratling atelier. Condition is excellent with some minor wear and patina consistent with age and use as shown. Clasp works well. I can polish this up if requested by the customer, but leave it in as found condition otherwise. Great gift for an adoring wife or girlfriend.
