$700.00
Offered is a more than century old original watercolor painting by Holmes Smith (1863-1937) executed on paper c. 1912 and believed to be of a Wolf, Wyoming landscape from a high plateau with large white clouds. The scene is a gorgeous landscape of lush green grasses and low lying bushes. Colors are beautiful and this is a classic Holmes Smith painting by a well known regionalist. The painting is 9" x 13.5" and is sold unframed. Smith was a longtime faculty member of Washington University. He came to the University in 1884 as a drawing instructor and became professor of drawing and history of art in 1907. I have a number of Smith watercolors that were sourced from deaccessions from the family estate. Condition is fair with minor foxing. Perfect for framing.
