Offered is an original c. 1910 monochromatic watercolor painting by Holmes Smith (1863-1937) executed on paper of the Mississippi River as seen from Fort Snelling in the foreground (see historic photo in the photos). This is a lovely Holmes Smith painting by a well known regionalist. The painting is 9" x 11.5" and is sold unframed. Smith was a longtime faculty member of Washington University. He came to the University in 1884 as a drawing instructor and became professor of drawing and history of art in 1907. We have a number of Smith watercolors that were sourced from deaccessions from the family estate. Perfect for framing.
