C 1900 Hénin & Cie French Beaker or Timbale Sterling Silver Gilt (950) Pair

$800.00
A c.1900 pair of sterling silver gilt timbales or tulip cups. The timbale is a classic French form having been crafter there for centuries, perhaps you could call it France's signature cup. This set the bar quite high as matched pair. What they don't have in centuries of age, they make up in fabulous and unique decoration. They are close enough in size and look to be one for each of a couple and I envision these as a fabulous wedding or anniversary gift. These early 20th century French sterling silver (950) beakers were built painstakingly over days, not stamped out in a factory. The engraving and hand chased details are second to none. The quality is unmistakable when you feel it in your hand. Sturdy build and a heavy gauge. Classic French silversmithing with elegant simple lines. Very sturdy construction with their fabulous and elaborate chased details, the cups are fully gilded. The gilding has been evenly worn revealing the silver beneath, a testament that these gracefully aging beauties have been very well loved indeed. Flared lips and raised pedestal feet complete the profiles. Perfect for an every day nip or to celebrate the highlights of life. Both are marked for Hénin & Cie near the lips and with the Minerva 950 standard mark. Condition is outstanding with minor very small scratches (shown) and with appropriate patina. Dimensions: ~3.75" (~95mm) tall and ~2.5" (~63.5mm) wide at the rim. Weight: 150 grams and 144 grams respectively for a total weight of 294 grams on the pair. Timbale en vermeil de la maison Hénin & Cie Poinçon tête de minerve 1er titre Une petite tâche visible sur les photos.
