Antique Sino-Tibetan Solid Silver Seal Paste box with Dragon
$850.00
An extraordinary and scarce Sino-Tibetan or perhaps Chinese solid silver and heavy seal paste box from the 19th century or earlier. The gauge of the silver is very thick, rigid, and generally stiff as though the item was certainly made for use and importance on the table of a scholar or government official. Wear is not noted. On both sides of the cast silver box are two intertwined dragons spitting fire at one another. Excellent details, but not in exactly a traditional Chinese style. Inside, the box is full of seal paste, still fit for use and bearing the imprint of the last stamp that was used in it (illegible to me). This paste does have mercury / cinnabar components in it, so for safety reasons, I can remove and clean it at the buyer's request. Otherwise, it stays but be sure to gain awareness of the potential health hazards of this compound (neither DC Silver nor Nate Ivey assume any liability for this object). Everything points to the fact that these are exceptionally rare in solid silver. Glorious!
