Antique Chinese Carved Marble Guanyin (Guan Yin) Stone Sculpture

$2,400.00
This heavy garden sized finely carved Qing Chinese marble sculpture depicts the Goddess Guanyin with a lotus flower at her forehead and elegant wisps of wind behind her hair sitting in the lotus position. Seems to have some dirt in the fine cracks under magnification and there are signs of the dissolution (like melting over long periods of time) of the stone, very likely from weathering. Guanyin or Guan Yin is an East Asian bodhisattva associated with compassion as venerated by Mahayana Buddhists. She is commonly known as the "Goddess of Mercy" in English and Gayatri in Hindi. The Chinese name Guanyin is short for Guanshiyin, meaning "The One Who Perceives the Sounds of the World". The sentiment of this sculpture is to help you in the transitory nature of this time to find that within you which is still. Dimensions: 9" x 12" x 17" For other antiques: https://www.etsy.com/shop/CrescentCityConnect?section_id=6783279 For other wondrous treasures, wander around the shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/neurorocker
