A 1750-60 Benjamin Burt Boston Coin Silver Tablespoon

Offered for sale, a highly important colonial American coin silver shellback tablespoon by Benjamin Burt (1729-1805) of Boston. Burt was trained by his father, John Burt (1692/3-1745). He was both prolific and highly successful as a silversmith, second only to Paul Revere in the quantity of silver that he produced, and was selected to lead Boston's goldsmiths in 1800 in the memorial procession after George Washington's death.
This spoon has a pronounced upturned terminal and a strong midrib spone. It is monogrammed in a period script fot 'E*R'. Owner has not yet been identified, but it is likely this could be researched. Condition is remarkably good with little wear aside from some typical surface scratching. Really a premier piece of American silver. If you don't buy this one, when will you get another chance?
