19th Century Turkmen Silver Gilt Quran (Koran) Kamea Cheikel Pouch with Carnelian

$1,000.00
Offered is a very unique and beautiful antique Turkmen silver gilt Quran (Koran) kamea cheikel leather pouch with carnelian. This large scale pouch hangs on a silver studded strap made of leather and fabric. This piece is as found and presumably as used. Owing to the fact that it has so much wear and that nothing about it is perfectly symmetrical, I believe this piece was not made for tourists unlike some versions that are seen. Pouch is about 4" x 4.5" Strap is about 34" Condition is good antique with lots of signs of wear, age, and use. I'm not going to make a concession on the price but I do take layaway. The Turkmen are nomadic people in the deserts of Turkmenistan and surrounding areas of central Asia where they have lived for thousands of years. They are well-known for their jewelry made of silver gilt accented with carnelian or red glass jewels and sometimes turquoise beads. There are five major tribes of turkmen, the Tekke, Ersari, Yomut, Choudur and Saryks represented by the five stars of the turkmen national flag.
