19th Century Papua New Guinean Water Flask or Canteen
$180.00
Offered here is a very cool and unique tribal water flask made in New Guinea and evidently collected there in the mid-19th century by an English-speaking explorer. It is accompanied by a terrific, fragile handwritten note that reads as follows:
"Water Bottle, made by a native of New Guinea from a small coconut. The pith + kernel are abstracted through the small opening with a rude knife + the inside cleaned out thoroughly with sand or small pebbles. The stopper is made from a palm leaf tightly rolled."
Amazing survivor and ethnographic item! Price is firm.
