$180.00
1930's German heavy gauge solid silver tablespoon pair from Halle by Franz Tittel in very good condition (light surface scratches). Well stamped with unidentified city mark and maker mark for Tittel as well as the halbmond & krone and three pine trees. Of a sufficient gauge for everyday use. About 148 grams grams. Spoon is just short of 8.5" long. No monograms Flatware made within the ideals of the Deutscher Werkbund, a German association founded in 1907, exhibits a distinct set of design motifs. Embracing geometric abstraction, the Werkbund celebrated clean lines, simplified forms, and geometric shapes, capturing the essence of a modernist aesthetic. Functionality held utmost importance within this movement, and thus the flatware reflects an emphasis on usability and ergonomic considerations, ensuring practicality and efficiency in its design. Simplicity and minimalism were also highly valued, resulting in flatware with a sleek and understated appearance, favoring subtle ornamentation or none at all. While not a defining characteristic, organic influences occasionally found their way into Werkbund designs. Lastly, the Werkbund's commitment to rationality and standardization manifest in standardized sizes, proportions, and modular components, enabling efficient production and interchangeability. In summary, flatware created under the Werkbund's influence would exhibit a harmonious blend of geometric abstraction, functionality, simplicity, organic elements, and rationality, representing the movement's overarching design principles.
