1930 Japanese Sterling Silver 950 Figural Zori (flip flop / sandal) Salt and Pepper
$115.00
Wonderful pair of solid 950 sterling silver gilt with enamel figural Japanese zori motif antique salt and pepper decorated with a hammered surface. Zori are traditional Japanese sandals made with a flat sole and a thong strap that fits between the toes. They are often made from various materials, including straw, fabric, or synthetic materials. Zori are commonly worn with traditional Japanese clothing such as kimono or yukata, especially on formal occasions or during traditional ceremonies. These are older pieces with some very minor patina (in all the right places). Condition is near perfect leading me to believe they were unused.
These weigh about 32 grams and are in good working order. Each shaker has a well-fitted sliding hatch door at the bottom that opens to fill with salt/pepper. Hatches open and close smoothly and securely. The fine repousse work on the shakers is embossed with what is a brilliant chrysanthemum (royal symbol of Japan) on both sides and these are parcel gilt. The shakers have the lines that you would expect in a boat. Great items! Dimensions are: 2" long. Stamped 'Sterling 950'. Probably made 1920-1940.
