Offered is an attractive Dutch silver cigarette box produced by Vos & Co., Haarlem 1915-1919 (mark is 'VOS'/'VS'/HOLLAND/lion with key/Minerva with 'A' for Amsterdam assay. This is fashioned in the traditional form with repousse scenes of Dutch towns and landscapes, especially as seen from across the water to boat moorages, low-slung houses, and church steeples. Maker's mark is for Vos & Co., Haarlem 1915-1919. At the time this box was engraved, Amsterdam was in the midst of severe famine and turmoil as a result of the war. Weight: 365 grams.
