1905-20 Charles Barrier for Lenoir French Gilded Sterling Silver Berry or Fruit Serving Bowl and Sugar Sifter Spoon with Royal Arms
$375.00
A very fine sterling silver dish executed by Charles Barrier of Paris for Lenoir in sterling silver gilt in the original box and in fine condition. The dish is round, measuring 4.25" across and 2" tall. This item has unusual and well-executed engine turned engraving around its perimeter and a fancy cartouche with the crown of nobility (Count or Earl, permitted) at one side. Engine turned engraving was executed with a very expensive 'rose engine lathe' that only the top silversmiths had access to at the time. Clearly hallmarked for Charles Barrier in diamond cartouche and his traditional maker mark. Also marked with the Minerva (numeral 1) at outside rim. Engraved at the bottom Lenoir. 14. Rue Royale. Overall, the gauge is on the light side and this piece won't stand for abuse. It's clearly been carefully handled and admired. Recently recovered from a New Orleans-area estate.
Also included is a matching sifter spoon, also marked with the same crown and also with very crisp and detailed engine turned engraving.
As if that wasn't enough... There is a gorgeous original fitted presentation box with gilt lettering and silk lining! Box is in good shape and will keep your set in excellent condition. Note, there are some age-related losses to the silk liner.
Overall, in excellent antique condition with slight wear and patina commensurate with age and usage slight scuffs to gilding on the bottom and other wear as noted.
116 grams.
Price is firm!
