1900 Hand Wrought 800 Silver Otto Schneider German Tray Ernst Ludwig, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine

$1,600.00
A hand wrought heavy gauge silver tray of German origins, marked possibly for the leibgarde Infanterie Regiment (In the book Militär-Wochenblatt. v.99 pt.2 1914, for one example, it seems like Freiherr Schenck zu Schweinsberg is mentioned as in the leibgarde Infanterie Regiment.). Ernst Ludwig, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine, was the leader of the regiment at that time (and grandson of Queen Victoria). The text reads (with likely typos): 15 Mai, 1900. Ernst Ludwig Grosherzog von Hessing wb Rhein, v. Hartmann, Freiherr v. Rheinhaben, v. Krossigk, v. Randow, Stubenrauch, v. Lindquist, Freiherr Treusch v. Buttlar - Porandefels, Gr. V. Breslow, v Goerne, v Oppeln - Bronikowski, v. Bothmer, Freiherr. Schenck zu Schweinsberg (Kurt), v. Brauchitsch, v. Lepel, Freiherr V. Grafs V Hofmann, v Westernhagen, v Lindeiner gen v. Wildaw, v. Kropff, Freiherr v. Hugel, Freiherr. Preuschen, Freiherr Schenck zu Schweinsberg (August), v.d. Osten, v. Kockritz, v. Sommer, v. Holtzendorff, Milchling v. W. Z. Schonstadt, Gr. V. Budingen, Freiherr Rider v. Diersburg (Maximilian), v. Sonden, v. Langen, Kolb, v. Hagen, Leebold, v. Schröter, Bauer v. Bauern, Becker, Keim (Fritz), Wernher (Wilhelm), Freiherr v. Beust, v. Hombergh zu Noch, Wernher (Alfred), Freiherr Schenck zu Schweinsberg (Fritz), Tournee, v Olper (Walther), v. Strzemierzny, Keim (Gustav), Freiherr Gans Edle Herren zu Putlitz, Freiherr. Gall, v. Callas Reidiesel Freiherr zu Eisenbach, v. Kleist, v. Olper (Ferdinand), v. Hennecke, Freiherr Schaffer v. Bernstein, v. Hefse, Freiherr v. Schütz Holzhausen, Konopacki, Lippelt, Poppenhausen, Weber, Hofmann The presence of Ernst Ludwig's royal cypher on the silver tray suggests that it was likely commissioned or used by him during his reign as Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine. The engraved list of names and the date May 15, 1900, could signify an event or occasion that took place on that date. Given the extensive list of names, it appears to be a commemorative or ceremonial item associated with a gathering or celebration held on May 15, 1900. The individuals listed may have been guests at the event, possibly representing a mix of nobility, officials, and other prominent figures of the time. Some of the names listed seem to belong to noble families, such as "Freiherr v. Rheinhaben" and "Freiherr v. Schenck zu Schweinsberg," indicating that they were likely members of the German aristocracy. Others may have been individuals associated with the Grand Ducal court or other influential circles in Germany.
