1900-1915 Sweetser & Co. New York City Sterling Silver and Jade Sugar Bowl

Sweetser & Co. was a New York City-based maker of fine sterling silver and gold items. This piece is a covered sugar bowl with multiple chinoiserie vignettes and a simple stepped foot. Pieces by this maker are quite scarce, perhaps owing in part to their short run as a company. The panels illustrate Chinese landscapes as well as prunus or cherry blossoms and a twisted pine bough. Possibly the best thing about this bowl is the finial on the lid which is a large piece of jadeite that in the form of a much older Chinese ornament. This hand cut jade ornament can be carefully removed from the lid. Really quite fabulous. Certainly very fine and one of a kind. Additional photos upon request.
