A fine bombe form rectangular tea caddy with floral forms and scallop motifs. A rich scene of lovers in a garden makes a Classical scene. This box is very heavily decorated in the repousse style for which Hanau is famous. Putti, but also a figural lion makes the finial at the lid.. Condition is good with no major issues! A small crack is noted at one lid edge. Can you imagine what a wonderful gift it will be?! I don't think it will be easy to find another this good. Marked at the bottom with the silver pseudomarks of B. Neresheimer & Sohne of Hanau, Germany. Also marked with import marks of "foreign agent" John George Smith (active 1897-1900) of London, and also with a sterling mark and London city mark along with the 'F' foreign mark, and an 1898 date mark.
