1895 Gloucester Landscape with Rigged Ship by Holmes Smith - Original Watercolor Painting (7" x 10")

$650.00
Offered is an original watercolor painting by Holmes Smith (1863-1937) executed on paper in around 1895 in Gloucester, MA (the back includes pencil identification of the location). The scene is the jagged shoreline facing East into the steel grey morning with a three rigged ship near the horizon at low tide. Colors are beautiful and this is a classic Holmes Smith painting by a well known regionalist. The painting is 7" x 10" and is sold unframed. Smith was a longtime faculty member of Washington University. He came to the University in 1884 as a drawing instructor and became professor of drawing and history of art in 1907. I have a number of Smith watercolors that were sourced from deaccessions from the family estate. Perfect for framing.
