1890-1910 Kandy, Sri Lanka (Ceylon) Silver Lidded Box (429 grams) w/ Elephants Lions Birds

A large solid silver Sri Lankan lidded box marvelously decorated on every surface with exuberant floral vines and a menagerie of animals including the sword-bearing lion (emblem of Sri Lanka) as well as entwined swans (hansa puttuwa) that are an ancient symbol of love and marriage, and a series of elephants. This is a gorgeous heavy box that has been lightly used and is in good condition with a nice tight-fitting lid. Silver is unmarked (typical of this work) but has been tested and is guaranteed. No damage noted at all, but a nice patina in the low spots that makes the patterns stand out brilliantly.
