$400.00
A distinct and large sterling silver soup or punch ladle made by by Conrad Klank & Sons and retailed by Henry Silverthorn made Baltimore in the 'Hand Chased' pattern. Klank were a manufacturing silversmith making silver for various retailers in the Mid-Atlantic region. The pattern debuted in 1871 and after the demise of Klank & Son in 1904, the pattern was picked up by Heer-Schofield (AKA Schofield) in 1905, when they bought the tools and dies of Klank...who got burned out in the 1904 Baltimore Fire. Schofield made the pattern in to the 1950s.The handle is beautifully embossed with with the Baltimore Rose pattern. Separately, the bowl is finished in both brilliant and matte and is intricately engraved with flowers and conjoined stars. The back is plain. Made of a heavy gauge of silver and stamped for 'STERLING' and 'H. SILVERTHORN' (double struck). Conditions is very good with the patina you expect from age and careful use. No monograms. Klanks pieces are hardly ever marked as they put the retailers name on the silver and not theirs. Age here based on the bright cut engraving is 1890 to 1904. After 1900, the bright engraving died off quickly... a bit too fussy for the "new, modern century" Dimensions: 12-13" Weight: 190 grams.
