1874 Museum Quality Danish Sterling Silver Spoon. by V. Christesen

This is a scarce and fine Danish silver spoon by maker V. Christesen of Copenhagen, Denmark. This piece is decorated finely with flower petals and stamen as well as more abstracted Northern European motifs. Spoon bowl is sharp and free of defect. Rear of spoon bowl features the unusual presence of a keel line that runs to the band where handle meets bowl. There is a single additional example by the same maker in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art which can be seen by searching their collection for: "V. Christensen" (they have made an error on the web site in the spelling). Ekstremt flot sterlingsølv danske skeen fra Københavns sølvsmed. Lavet i 1873. Sjældne. Betingelse er fremragende med sprød stempler. Crisp Markings include: V. CHRISTESEN; 3 spires by water, in oval; in exergue no. 74 (Copenhagen, warrant, 1874; monogram S G (Simon Chr. Sch. Groth, 1863-1904); C.P. above leg. INV. in oval; in oval, Cupid flying (to right) with builder's square and compass, above inscription ENEBERETTIGET (trademark). Dimensions: 5 3/4".
