1861-5 Sterling Silver French Server by Thomas & Hénin

Antique late 19th century French silver handled soft cheese knife with a solid silver blade. Blade is marked with the 'HV' mark along with their rosebud and star for Hénin et Vivier who had a workshop for five years in the 1890's at 77 rue des Archives in Paris. They were succeeded by Hénin et Cie. Blade is also marked with the Minerva mark as well as a faint bigorne mark on the obverse. Handle marked HV and with Minerva. The shape of the blade is elegant. The repousse handle is adorned with flower swags and other French motifs such as the trumpet, olive bough, and book. Also acanthus at the hilt. Ex-Richard Fill collection. Dimensions: 7.75" total knife length. Hallmarked French silver guarantee mark (950 standard), maker's mark (J.Granvigne, 4 Rue Beranger, Paris, succeeded by Tetard. Faintly monogrammed on the back.
