A steel engraved book plate portraying the Dunstan family of Haverhill (Massachusetts). On March 15, 1697, native Americans attacked. Mr. Dunstan, a father of eight, was at work and came running to his family. His wife had recently given birth and was in bed (and was ultimately kidnapped during the attack alongside another villager). Mr. Dunstan took a rifle and kept firing to protect the seven children with whom he managed to escape. He took the children to safety. The print of the escape of the Dunstan family was done by American artist Henry Corbould (1815-1905) before 1856. Dimensions: 6.25" x 9.75".
