1838 Odiot Sterling Silver Serving Plate and Meat Serving Tray - Paris (1725+ grams) with Palmette Pattern and Griffin Arms
$4,800.00
A very fine 1838 sterling silver dish and matching meat serving tray executed by the legendary Maison Odiot of Paris. The dish is round, measuring 11.75" across. The tray is oval and measures 17.75". This set has a beautiful period armorial of two griffins flanking a quartered shield with a mantle at the rim. The back is left unadorned. Very clearly hallmarked for Odiot (1825-98 mark), Paris, and with the 1838- first standard Minerva hallmark. A bigorne mark on the small tray (1835-38), removed on the large tray. Overall, the gauge is extremely heavy as you would expect from Odiot during this period. 1726 grams on the set. Recently recovered from a Chicago-area estate (Ex-Richard Fill collection).
In very good antique condition with wear and patina commensurate with age and usage. There is surface scratching that could be professionally conserved by my silversmith or yours.
