1825-38 Jean-Baptiste Claude Odiot Sterling Silver 9.5" Serving Plate - Paris (598 grams) with Lion Arms
$2,800.00
A very fine sterling silver dish executed by the legendary Maison Odiot of Paris 1825-38. The dish is round, measuring 9.5" across. This item has a beautiful period armorial engraved at the rim with crowned lions flanking the halved shield. The shield has two fields, one with a tall tree and the other with a crowned lion holding a sword. The whole shield is under 5-pointed crown. This tray has a gadrooned border around the rim. The back is left unadorned. Very clearly hallmarked for Odiot (JBCO mark) and with the Standard mark. An indistinct mark on the obverse rim may be a bigorne mark. Overall, the gauge is extremely heavy as you would expect from Odiot during the Jean-Baptiste Claude Odiot period. 598 grams. Recently recovered from a Chicago-area estate (Ex-Richard Fill collection).
In very good antique condition with wear and patina commensurate with age and usage. There is surface scratching that could be professionally conserved by my silversmith or yours.
