1824 Silver Gilt Repousse Pen Tray George IV by Joseph Ash I of London (59 grams)
$360.00
Offered this 1824 George IV English sterling silver repousse pen tray likely by Joseph Ash I. Ash embossed this tray with elaborate designs and motifs including birds, floral swags, and dragonflies. Pie crust edges. A lovely small thing in perfect condition. Marked with the English lion passant, London leopard, 'i' date letter, and the head of George IV. Also marked with a weak maker mark at the edge and covered partially by the decoration. I believe this is an I.A, and stylistically this matches very well with the other works of Ash who made elaborate silver items like this. Fascinating that on the back of this tray there is an entire scene that has been engraved but not executed. Perhaps a draft for another work? Condition is excellent with some scant signs of wear from overpolishing.
Dimensions: 3.5" x 5.75”. Total weight is 59 grams of silver.
Very competitive offers considered.
