1824-1833 French Silver Serving Spoon (114 grams) by Charles Salomon Mahler

Offered here is a very large silver serving spoon with classic lines and an upturned terminal. Marked *A.L* on the stem back . Gorgeous! Condition is outstanding with a good original patina and a few small dings. 11+" and 113.5 grams. Marked with the C Mahler mark, the large guaranty mark (1819-38) and the 950 standard Paris hallmark (1819-38).
Charles-Salomon Mahler was the successor to Gilbert-Nicolas Castel in 1816. He was a flatware maker (cuilleriste orfevre) working in Paris. He used a a 16th C style helmet mark (a tribute to Castel who used a similar helmet as his symbol) from February 19, 1824 until November 11, 1833 when he was working at 21 cour du Harlay. He continued to work at other locations using a different mark.
