1800-05 Bassett & Warford Albany Coin Silver Tablespoon (59.3 grams) 9.5"
$400.00
This spoon was probably made right before the turn of the 1810-1819 in Albany by Nehemiah B. Bassett and Joseph Warford with a shop No. 12 upper end of Market St at the sign of the silver watch. It has a very clear maker mark. Hard to find spoon. This firm made silver for Vice-President of the United States, George Clinton. Monogrammed for father and son, first 'CVB' and later 'MVB'. A search of the records of New York reveals that this spoon may have been purchased by Cornelius van Buren and then later passed to his son, Matthew van Buren. The van Buren family was prominent in the Kingston and Kinderhook parts of New York, producing among others President Martin van Buren.
