A pair of 1797 French sugar tongs by François-Joseph Meresse with bright cut engraving and in excellent condition. Meresse was a buckle maker working in Paris at 100 rue de la Verrerie. These tongs must've been made at the very beginning of his career as he registered his mark FJM, symbol a fly (une mouche) in 1798. Also with the extremely rare 950 standard wolf's head used only for 1797 optionally.
