1790-1800 John Bedford Coin Silver Teaspoon Collection - Fishkill, NY

$140.00
Ca 1785-1800 large tablespoon by John Bedford of Fishkill, NY in Duchess County where he worked on Main Street from shortly after the Revolution until his death in 1834. Based on the forms, these were likely made right around the end of the 18th century. This is an assembled set, each with a different monogram engraved with a clumsy hand. One, with an earlier distinctly 18th century profile (maybe 1780), is also engraved by a different more qualified hand as 'LMB' and has a narrow thin drop. Two are transitional (maybe 1790), and the last could be around 1795-1800. Therefore, the spoons represent different stages in the career of this well-respected provincial American silversmith. All are marked with the J Bedford cursive die mark. Condition is very good with normal age-related patina and wear. Length is: 5 1/2" [Reference: Belden, Louise, Marks of American Silversmiths; "The Silversmiths of Poughkeepsie", Year Book Duchess County Historical Society, Vol. 30, 1945] Check out some of my other sterling silver flatware here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/DCSILVERSHOP?ref=search_shop_redirect§ion_id=7399760 Or just browse around the shop! https://www.etsy.com/shop/DCSILVERSHOP
