1785-1820 German 12 Loth Silver Clothing Buttons Including by Jan Onnen Janssen
$450.00
Exceptionally difficult to find recovered group of ten assembled German or Danish 12 loth silver clothing buttons. Occasionally one of these is found, but to find a very large group in fine condition like this is exceedingly rare. For that reason, these are being sold as a group only. The hole on the back and the hollow body construction dates these to the late 18th or very early 19th century. There are a couple of unidentified silversmiths that have signed these, but they go very very well together and have apparently been traveling together for a long time. I suspect the original owner lost a couple of buttons and had replacements made or these came off of multiple garments purchased in the same period and location.
One of the makers has been identified. Jan Onnen Janssen from Bergedorf near Hamburg.
We have left these unpolished to retain the original patina. If you need the all spiffed up, leave a note with your purchase and I'll take care of it before they go out.
These buttons are large measuring xx" (mm). Condition is excellent.
