1783 Hester Bateman Sterling Silver George III Gravy Boat or Sauceboat
$1,800.00
Offered is a 1783 Hester Bateman sauceboat or gravy. This piece is large and substantial, and of course very well made by the 'Queen of Silver'. Hand forged from a heavy gauge of silver with an opulent profile and intricate bright cut engraving. Hammer marks evident at the base and with a period monogram and crest. It's possible that this piece could be identified to the original owner with sufficient research.
Bottom-struck hallmarks for Hester Bateman. The crest can be described as a stag's head couped.
Condition is fair due entirely to a slightly clumsy repair of the handle in my opinion. This repair could be sorted out by a silversmith and the surface restored. No other issues are noted.
Weight is 316 grams.
Hold 12 liquid ounces.
