Scarce 1765-70 large tablespoon by Samuel Johnson of New York City, NY. Plain design of a more austere age and made in a good heavy gauge of silver. Note the fabulous drop on the spoon. Marriage monogram 'M T+V' in period fancy Roman letters. Condition is very good with age-related patina and wear including slight edge wear. Extremely crisp example of Johnson's 'SJ' mark. Collected by Winterthur Museum, The Met, and others.
