1761 James Jones (attr.) George III Tablespoon

$185.00
Spectacular early ca. 1755 James Jones (possibly) sterling silver tablespoon. Hand forged from a heavy gauge of silver with an opulent simple profile and downturned terminal. Bottom-struck hallmarks for JJ, and correct pre-1822 crowned leopard, lion passant, and a clean 'f' date mark. Two generations of family monograms engraved here elegantly. The mark is alternatively described as John Jones [Wyler]. This spoon may not ever be identified because the maker mark was probably registered in the lost register of small workers marks of the 1739 to 1758 period. This spoon is 8" in length. Overall, this Georgian spoon is in very good condition with a strong, thick bowl tip, and strong heel to the reverse of the bowl and an excellent patina. No dings. Condition includes typical fine surface scratches commensurate with age and use and right handed bowl wear. No breaks, significant dints, or repairs. Weight is 47.1 grams.
