1750 Engraving of by Pierre François Courtois

$150.00
A very scarce mid 18th century engraving by Pierre François Courtois (French, Paris 1736–1763 Rochefort). He was a native French engraver who was not well known in his age and consequently, examples of his work are quite rare (two examples in the Met Museum). This engraving was probably executed around 1750 and is probably after the self-portrait by Collin that hangs in the Aethenium. This work is entitled, "RCIAHDR CLOILN". The subject is Richard Collin (1626, Luxembourg – 1698, Brussels), who was a master engraver from Luxemburg. This is the only known example of this image. Signed PFC in the block. [Ref for PFC: Bocher 120.382 iii/iii; Portalis & Beraldi I.599.2; Le Blanc II.59] Very good condition. Dimensions of the etching not inclusive of the frame: 3.5" x 5.75" in an 8.5" x 12.5" frame .
