1740 Sterling Silver Dognose Tablespoon with Norse Engraving
$160.00
This is a good dognose silver tablespoon with complex engravings and an unusual thumb rest that I believe was made in Denmark or Norway. Made in an old-fashioned pattern with resplendent hand etched Norse chasing on the obverse of stem terminal. A very light and faded monogram and date can barely be read in a period cursive script on the front of the terminal (GSK maybe). Really a very special, rare and unique piece. Wear is commensurate with age and use as shown but the condition is fair because of some tip wear but does not appear over polished as some examples are. Overall, the spoon has a stout and impressive profile and classic proportions. Gauge is medium, slightly on the light side. No maker mark.
Length: About 7.25+" in length
28 grams.
