1720-40 shellback teaspoon by Jean Hastier of New York City, NY. Plain design with upturned terminal and central midrib spine hearkening to a more restrained age and made in a good medium gauge of silver. Monogram 'M+B' in period hand-engraved Roman letters. Condition is very good. Nicely marked 'IH'. Collected by Winterthur, The Met, Yale, and others. He was among the prominent New York silversmiths who were Huguenots like Le Roux, Goelet, Pelletreau, Moulinar, and Huertin. Condition is fair with some possible reworking of the bowl.
