Exceptional 1710-20 solid silver teaspoon with a rattail made by Henricus Boelen (1697-1755) of New York. This spoon has all the classic characteristics, and is clearly marked with Boelen's conjoined IB mark [Reference: Winterthur]. A nice medium gauge spoon. Upturned terminal. Condition is very good with slight bowl wear. A scarce and exceedingly rare maker. Boelen's work is collected by Yale University Art Gallery, Brooklyn Museum, The Met, and Winterthur among others.
This spoon is engraved with an 'x', an early belief to keep away evil.
