1685 James II Thomas Issod London Silver Lace-back Trefid Spoon - Scarce
$3,900.00
A 1685 sterling silver London laceback trefid tablespoon with rattail recovered recently from Edinburgh. The date mark is weak, but strongly appears as 1685, leopard mark is crisp, and with a nice clear lion passant. Maker mark is weak but appears to have an 'I' under crown and is believed to be the mark of Thomas Issod. A nice heavy gauge spoon. Slight upturn of the terminal. Condition is good with honest wear on the bowl and terminal, including surface scratches. Nonetheless, a scarce form with good decoration. Absolutely gorgeous pinprick initials GS / SH.
Length: 7.75"
Issod is represented in the Met: https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/197414?fbclid=IwAR3A8yT2G7e3_zGUYpI5j-KcJitpy75j6hQwzFd0EPa9jP_GkHwtGBPLRsc
