1590-1650 Pewter English Slip Top Spoon with Rattail Found on the Thames Foreshore

$450.00
Incredible late 16th-17th century slip top pewter spoon composed of a hexagonal stem and classic fig-shaped bowl stamped with 'P H I' owner's mark as well as the maker's mark "W | A" in a cartouche. This spoon was found on the Thames foreshore by a mudlarker in London (precise find spot unknown). Subsequently, it was acquired on the UK antiques market between 1974-1985 and entered the Albert Ward collection in Essex, UK. I purchased it in 2022 with the requisite export licence from the Arts Council of England which was required to release it to the United States (conveys with spoon). Weight: 49 grams Length: about 6.75" Pewter of this era probably has a high lead content (not recommended for use).
